Plant Buddies

(That's what we call them.)

I tried this little number out with a wide range of ages.  The Daisy Girl Scout Troop I work with and My Junior troop, had a blast with this one.  It's simple, fast, cheap, and kid friendly!

I had each girl bring her own bottle in (pre-cut), and as many different types of caps she could find in a week.  Then I divided the rest of the supplies up.  One mom brought the shovels (plastic spoons), one the seeds, one the eyes, and one a hot glue gun to attach the faces.

Keep in mind we did this project all from pictures, their were no directions with this pin, but it appeared to be step by step pictures.  The following is a list of items I used in this project.
  • 1 plastic table cloth -- To help make clean up easy.
  • 1 plastic spoon per child
  • 1 bottom of a 2 liter soda bottle (We cut off and used the bottom 3rd.)
  • Various soda, water, and milk jug lids we could find.  (you need at least three total for each girl.)
  • Large Googly Eyes (Two eyes per child -found at our local dollar store.)
  • 1 package of seeds per child (Any kind is fine.  We used Cat Grass)
  • 1 Bag of dirt (size depends on number of participants.)
It is easiest to attach the faces before you fill them.  Then add dirt, leaving about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of space at the top.  Pour seeds in container, then sprinkle with dirt.  Water till soil is moist.  Place in direct sunlight or whatever your seed pack says for that type of plant.  Check Plant Buddy daily, water when needed.  DO NOT OVER WATER!

We planted ours a week ago and they already have funny veins running through their faces, as well as a little fine hair.

Welcome!

For my first post I wanted to share a recipe that everyone is afraid to try.  Bread!  That's right!  Homemade Bread!  This pin broke the recipe down into individual steps and showed pictures (For us visual learners.)!

I would recommend this pin to any first time bread baker.  It was simple easy to follow, and turned out fabulous.
This is the link to the recipe.
